The public is invited to a presentation entitled “What Is Human Trafficking? Do I Support It without Knowing It?” on Saturday, January 10, 2015, at 10:00 a.m., in the McLane Meeting Room of the Fond du Lac Public Library. The presenter will be by Nancy Irizarry, Co-Chair Wisconsin Anti-Human Trafficking Consortium.
The presentation is sponsored by the Fond du Lac Fair Trade Town Steering Committee and is planned in support of the National Human Trafficking Awareness Day. In 2007 the U.S. Senate designated January 11th as National Human Trafficking Awareness Day dedicated to raising awareness of sexual slavery and human trafficking worldwide. Although it is a U.S. initiative, the United Nations has begun to highlight this topic and work towards global awareness.
Locally, on December 10, 2014, the Fond du Lac City Council issued a proclamation against Human Trafficking acknowledging awareness of this scourge on humanity and that it is not to be tolerated in our community.
Area residents have this opportunity to become informed about the problem and what they can do to help prevent it in our community and worldwide.
Samples of Fair Trade coffee and hot chocolate will be available for tasting.
